(from the Introduction)

Harp therapy is a relatively new field of research and practice which explores the beneficial effects of the timbre of the harp. The sonorous sounds of the harp, and the marriage of its historical legacy as a healing instrument, with high-tech amplification, has given birth to a new type of harp therapy - Vibroacoustic Harp Therapy (VAHT).

This book attempts to provide a fundamental understanding of the history and principles of harp therapy, vibroacoustic therapy and VAHT. Music affects a human being on many levels simultaneously. Each chapter in this book attempts to describe the musical or vibrational experience through a different perspective.

Chapter one describes how the perennial harp reappears in many cultures throughout history as a divine, archetypal instrument of healing. Chapter two explores the characteristics of sound and how sound is heard and processed in the human body. In chapter three, we explore the research that describes how sound and vibration affect the energetic aspects of the human being. The cultural and healing elements of music, are reviewed in chapter four. Chapter five provides a framework for understanding some of the psychological underpinnings that may affect a client’s reaction to vibracoustic harp therapy. Chapter six describes the development and application of vibroacoustic therapy, while chapter seven integrates all of the previous chapters’ information into the development and application of vibracoustic harp therapy.

This book is intended to be a textbook for students of harp therapy, harp music enthusiasts, sound healers, and clinicians or administrators who might wish to employ the services of a vibroacoustic harp therapy practitioner. It is also intended to inspire and motivate readers to seek and expand awareness about the true nature of the human body, mind and spirit.
